Volunteer community outreach trip to Dominican Republic

Beyond grateful. Our hearts are full. Team Lotus joined by other amazing volunteers from Germany began the week seeing 550 students in the town of Cabarete, Dominican Republic for dental screenings, providing fluoride treatments and oral hygiene care packages. Dr. Melanie Milito and Dr. George Atanasiu diagnosed over 280 patients requiring surgeries and cavities to be filled.

We had arranged with the non-for-profit organization of HADAC (Haitians and Dominican Assistance Corporation) to have the students brought up to the dental/medical clinic at Monkey Jungle. HADAC created Monkey Jungle (a zip lining course and Monkey conservation) where 100% of the proceeds are given back to the organization to provide medical and dental care to the locals.

Dr. Melanie, Dr. George and the Lotus team saw 60 of the children requiring emergency dental treatment completing extractions, fillings and dental cleanings.

Together Team Lotus worked seamlessly with what materials they had creating roles while assisting each other. The team worked for hours straight without any breaks to accomplish seeing all the students they could.

We want to thank our incredible team for donating their time being away from their families and working so well together, powering through these long hot days. We thank our wonderful patients for your contributions to our community last month raising money for the organization and providing a huge donation to our local Kanata Food Cupboard and for being patient with us while we were closed for the week.

We couldn’t do any of this without each and every one of you.
